Hallucinations not uncommon in children taking ADHD medications

Treatment-related hallucinations and other psychotic symptoms are not uncommon among children taking ADHD drugs, according to a report from the FDA. The FDA recently examined the incidence of psychotic symptoms in children taking ADHD medications and found that as many as 1-2 kids per hundred experienced psychotic symptoms as a medication side effect. The symptoms stopped when the mediation was discontinued. Although ADHD specialists may recognize this type of symptom immediately as medication related, many family pediatricians may not.
